IOH engaging with our WC community Understanding PTSD in First Responders Raising Awareness for Workers’ Compensation Professionals Introduction Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a critical issue among first responders, a group that includes firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other emergency personnel. The nature of their work exposes them to traumatic events that significantly increase their risk of developing PTSD. For workers’ compensation professionals, including claims handlers, risk managers, and other stakeholders, understanding PTSD and its implications is essential for providing effective support and ensuring the well-being of those who serve on the front lines. June was PTSD Awareness Month, and Institutes of Health was happy to participate in raising awareness around PTSD and how it impacts our first responders.
