Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft vier verdachten vervolgd voor het neerhalen van Malaysia Airlines vlucht MH17 op 17 juli 2014. De rechtbank Den Haag heeft de strafzaak behandeld in het Justitieel Complex Schiphol (JCS). Op 9 maart 2020 begon de rechtszaak met een reeks voorbereidende zittingen. Daarin gaf het OM een gedetailleerde toelichting op het onderzoek en reageerde op de onderzoekswensen van de verdediging. Op 25 november 2020 werd de regiefase afgerond. Op de voorbereidende zittingen erna stonden de laatste ontwikkelingen en het nog uit te voeren onderzoek centraal. Op 7 juni 2021 begon de inhoudelijke behandeling van de zaken tegen de vier verdachten. In september en november 2021 vond het spreekrecht plaats, waarin ruim honderd nabestaanden het woord voerden. Net voor kerst 2021 hield het Openbaar Ministerie het requisitoir, waarin het het bewijs in deze zaak werd toegelicht. Op 22 december 2021 eisten de officieren van justitie levenslange gevangenisstraffen tegen de vier verdachten. De verdediging van verdachte Pulatov heeft in maart 2022 haar pleidooi gehouden. Na nog een aantal zittingen,waarin zowel de aanklagers als de verdediging spraken, werd het onderzoek ter gerechtzitting op vrijdag 10 juni 2022 afgesloten. De rechtbank heeft op 17 november 2022 uitspraak gedaan. Drie verdachten werden veroordeeld tot een levenslange gevangenisstraf, verdachte Pulatov werd vrijgesproken.
