For 90 years, the Huey P. Long Bridge has stood as a vital artery over the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, carrying both highway and railroad traffic. Since its opening in 1935, Modjeski and Masters, Inc. has played a central role in the bridge’s legacy—not only as the original designer, but also as the engineer behind the $1.2 billion widening and rehabilitation completed in 2013, which expanded the bridge to six highway lanes and enhanced regional commerce and mobility. Our involvement continues today through comprehensive engineering and inspection services that have spanned nearly a century. Our long-standing partnership with the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad includes annual hands-on inspections, in-depth assessments of both highway and railroad components, and the development of repair recommendations to maintain the bridge’s safety and functionality. These inspections employ advanced techniques such as technical rope access and ultrasonic testing.  The Huey P. Long Bridge is a testament to enduring engineering, with a main span of 3,524 feet and a total length of approximately 23,000 feet. Our work on the Huey P. Long Bridge exemplifies our niche expertise in large-span river crossings and complex structural evaluations.
