100%Details Reviews The Triads, PPS LW 1 St. Gregory Palamas Translator: Alexander R. Titus 818 pp 978-0-88141-726-5 Format: Cloth hardcover with sewn signatures St. Gregory Palamas wrote the Triads, the foremost of his many theological works, to refute Barlaam the Calabrian's attacks upon the spiritual practices of the Athonite monks. The Triads constitute the apex of late Byzantine theology, serving to tie together many strands of thought from earlier Church Fathers into a remarkable synthesis of what it means for man to know God and how this knowledge is obtained. Above all, Palamas is at pains to prove to the reader that salvation is not a human reality but rather one that takes man beyond himself and the limits human nature imposes upon him. At the core of the Triads lies St. Gregory's insistence that man can truly participate in the life of God even during the course of this earthly life and that this participation is a transfiguration of the whole man—body, soul, and mind. This translation by Alexander Titus is published alongside the original Greek text of Palamas as the first volume of the new Popular Patristics Series: Longer Works. An extension of the Popular Patristics Series, this new series is meant to bring to readers major texts from the patristic tradition that are too long to fit in the original Popular Patristics format. The Longer Works are indispensable reading for anyone interested in the history and development of Orthodox theology or the Christian patristic tradition. About the translator: Alexander R. Titus is an independent scholar and educator living in western Oregon. He received his doctorate in Church History from Princeton Theological Seminary, where he wrote his dissertation on Palamas’ reception of the Dionysian corpus in the Triads. 3 Reviews 5 Amazing book! 87%The runaway bestseller is now available in Spanish How can you believe all this stuff? This is the number-one question Catholics get asked—and, sometimes, we ask ourselves. Why do we believe that God exists, that he became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually his body? Why do we believe that he inspired a holy book and founded an infallible Church to teach us the one true way to live? Ever since he became Catholic, Trent Horn has spent a lot of time answering these questions, trying to explain to friends, family, and total strangers the reasons for his faith Some didn’t believe in God, or even in the existence of truth. Others said they were spiritual but didn’t think you needed religion to be happy. Some were Christians who thought Catholic doctrines over-complicated the pure gospel. And some were fellow Catholics who had a hard time understanding everything they professed to believe on Sunday. Why We’re Catholic assembles the clearest, friendliest, most helpful answers that Trent learned to give to all these people and more. Beginning with how we can know reality and ending with our hope of eternal life, it’s the perfect way to help skeptics and seekers (or Catholics who want to firm up their faith) understand the evidence that bolsters our belief—and brings us joy. 84%We are at a turning point. Our siblings are hurting. Crushed from the enormous weight of structural racism that devalues their humanity, we are crying out, “What can we DO?” These resources are not the only way to respond to systemic racism, but they are a start for education leading to action against the sin of racism.
