The Eierhandgranate ("egg hand grenade") is the name given to a model of a hand thrown fragmentation grenade manufactured in Germany, also known as Mod. 1917. A similar grenade called the Model 39 grenade was later introduced by Germany and used in World War II. Like all deactivated ordnance, this grenade is<strong> Not Available For Export.</strong></p> <p>This is a nice inert training example of the second type, called the Eierhandgranate M1917 Neuer Art (Egg Hand grenade New Model), with the raised central fragmentation band. This example has seven holes to denote it as a training grenade and has a transit plug inserted. In 1943, the Army began to phase in the new, darker shade of olive drab for their field gear. Contractors were permitted to use up existing stocks of the old color and phase in the new one which resulted in many items of equipment having mixed colors- hence the term "transitional". This version is made following the Philadelphia Quartermaster 299A specification, with olive drab number 3 body and olive drab number 7 trim. (Shoulder straps are OD3.) Same size as original bags.
