the west bengal board of secondary education came into being way back in 1951 as west bengal state government administered autonomous examining authority for the standard 10 examination (or secondary school level examination) of west bengal. established under the west bengal secondary education act of 1950, it was then called the board of secondary education. sri apurba kr. chanda was the first chairman of the board. the board of secondary education was renamed as the west bengal board of secondary education in 1964, under the west bengal board of secondary education act of 1963. the board in its present look came into existence from january, 1964 with dr. j. c. sengupta as the chairman. currently, professor dr.kalyanmoy ganguly is the president and paromita roy is the secretary in-charge of wbbse.
