There are no retroflex consonants in the Teochew language, like sh, tch. The southern Chinese dialects (Cantonese, Hokkien, Wu, Hakka) all don’t have these consonants. But they have a very plentiful and complex vowel system. Over 30 million people speak Teochew dialect. It is primarily spoken at home or between close friends.
