Das „Dragon“ ausgesprochene Werkzeug steuert man über Python-Skripte. In denen erhält man über eine einfach zu nutzende API Zugriff auf die Typen und Variablen des zu untersuchenden, laufenden Programms. Auf diese Weise kann man mit eigenem Python-Code den Debug-Prozess exakt und individuell steuern. Gegenüber herkömmlichen Debuggern ohne Scripting-Möglichkeiten lassen sich zudem komplexe, große Programme leichter analysieren. Obwohl Omar Sandoval bereits seit mehreren Jahren an seinem Werkzeug arbeitet, erreicht es erst jetzt die Version 0.1. Die kennt einige eingebaute Befehle, die ein „%“ einleitet. Beispielsweise führt „sh“ ein Shell-Kommando aus. Ein abgestürzter Linux-Kernel hinterlässt eine Crash-Dump-Datei, die wiederum das kleine Tool „crash“ analysieren kann. Die meisten seiner Parameter versteht jetzt auch drgn 0.1, so dass es das Werkzeug ersetzen kann. Dieser „crash compatibility mode“ lässt sich von der Kommandozeilenversion von drgn per „ %crash“-Befehl aus nutzen oder direkt über das neue Skript „drgn-crash“. Des Weiteren haben die drgn-Entwickler an mehrere Funktionen geschraubt sowie zahlreiche neue hinzugefügt. So liefert „drgn.Program.source_location()“ die Datei, Zeilennummer, Spaltennummer und den Funktionsnamen zu einer gegebenen Code-Adresse. Zu „drgn.Program“ sind gleich mehrere Funktionen hinzugestoßen, über die man nach bestimmten Werten oder Mustern im Speicher fahnden kann.
