L’observation de l’océan repose sur un grand ensemble de moyens d’acquisition de données. D’abord effectués à bord des navires océanographiques, les observations et prélèvements sont désormais également réalisés grâce à des satellites, des observatoires fixés sur les fonds marins, des bouées instrumentées... Plus récemment, la collecte d’ADN du milieu marin et le suivi d’animaux par balises viennent encore démultiplier les moyens possibles pour observer l’océan. L’Ifremer travaille à l’amélioration de ces systèmes, de leurs capteurs, de leur autonomie.
