Position Description: The Japanese Language Extension Instructor shall teach varying levels of non-credit Japanese language courses ranging from intermediate to advanced levels, based on candidate’s skill and experience. Students represent various segments of the community ranging from high school students to senior members/retirees. Instructors shall teach a minimum of one course for each of three 15-week semesters, for a total minimum of three courses per year and 45 weeks of instruction per year. Each course lasts fifteen weeks, with each class lasting 2 hours from 6:30pm to 8:30pm Eastern Time. There may be exceptions for special courses designed by the instructor and the Extension Education Manager that may modify the number of weeks, classes per week, and class duration, but this would only be after careful consultation and agreement with the instructor. Based on experience, skill, and interest, instructors will be assigned to courses ranging from intermediate level (Genki II) up to preparation for the JLPT N1 exam. In order to stay consistent with for-credit courses and most universities in NC, classes are taught based on the Genki and Quartet series.
