92%Along with the CODAC Core System product, the ITER CODAC team also provides hands-on workshops where participants can learn how to build their own I&C system using the Core System toolkit and real hardware (PLCs, fast controllers, digital and analogue I/O boards, ...). CODAC workshops are among the most seasoned trainings on the ITER technology; they have been running since 2011 without interruption. The workshops are four-day training sessions with both presentations and exercises. The agenda typically looks like this:Day 0: ITER work site visit / Training setup (Exercise 0)Day 1: CODAC Core System overview / EPICS introduction / Development workflow / ITER Self-Description Data tools (SDD)Day 2: EPICS database / COTS (industrial) controller integration / State Machines (FSM) and State Notation Language (SNL)Day 3: Slow controllers (PLC) / ITER PLC development tools (UCL / CGT) / Fast controllers / ITER Nominal Device Support (NDS)Day 4: Control System Studio (CSS) / Software delivery and quality assurance / Software configuration control (SVN)Since 2026 completely new exercises on slow and fast controllers are being offered - developed with the experience from the production systems actually used at ITER.It is very important to choose your training time wisely with regard to your plant system development progress, so that you can get maximum knowledge of the latest CODAC software and hardware at the right time of your development. Our recommendation is to sign up for a training session by the time your I&C design is advanced enough to proceed with implementation. If you are just looking for a general idea of what the CODAC Core System is, we recommend that you look through the training presentations (intranet site).
