Members of Innisfail’s Fire & Protective Services Department took time last week to honour a long-standing member of their team. At a special dinner held on Friday, March 20 at the Innisfail Golf Club, the department honoured John Syroid for his 50 years of service as a firefighter in Innisfail and the surrounding area. “This is an incredible achievement, and we’re happy to be able to officially recognize John through this evening’s event,” said Gary Leith, Innisfail’s Director of Protective Services. John first moved to Innisfail in 1969 and began his tenure with the Innisfail Fire Department on February 14, 1976. During his time with the department, John has served as a captain and a deputy-chief. Later, from 2003 to 2013, he served as chief. John still serves as an active member of the department.
