How warm is it here right now — according to a real thermometer? That is exactly what “Draußen” answers. You see the measurement from a named weather station of the Deutscher Wetterdienst (Germany's national weather service): its name, its distance, its height above sea level, and the time it measured. No model value, no value interpolated for your address, no estimate. WHAT YOU SEE • The temperature from a real station, set large and without colour coding • Which station measured it, how far away it is, how high it sits • When it measured — as a clock time, not “8 minutes ago”. Stations report hourly, so a reading is typically 20 to 60 minutes old, and the app claims nothing better • How far apart the readings of nearby stations are. A wide bar means the local temperature genuinely varies right now EVERY STATION, ACCOUNTED FOR The station list shows every station within 50 kilometres that is currently measuring — ranked by distance, reading age and height difference. The map shows which direction they lie in. You can pin any station yourself, and it stays until you reset the choice. Without location access, you search for a place and choose a station by hand. WHY YOUR BALCONY THERMOMETER DISAGREES Weather stations measure to the WMO standard: 2 metres above the ground, over grass, in the shade. A thermometer in the sun measures something else — rightly so. How much that matters, one station demonstrates on itself: on 6 August 2026 at 13:00 UTC, Berlin-Tempelhof reported 27.8 °C at 2 metres and 29.9 °C at 5 centimetres above the ground. Same station, same minute, 2.1 kelvin apart. There is no single true temperature at a place — only measurements whose where, how high and when are known. WIDGET AND APPLE WATCH A widget in three sizes for the Home and Lock Screen, three complications for Apple Watch. Always with the station name and the time of measurement, never a number without a source. Included, not sold separately — this is the core promise, not an add-on. WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO No forecast, no rain radar, no alerts, no history charts, no “feels like” temperature. Better apps exist for all of that. If no station is in range, the app says so instead of inventing a number. PRIVACY No account, no backend, no analytics, no crash reporter. Your location is rounded to three decimal places — about 110 metres — before it is sent to look up the nearest station. Finding a station needs no more precision than that. GERMANY ONLY The data comes from the measurement network of the Deutscher Wetterdienst. Beyond its reach, the app shows an honest empty state rather than an estimated value. Data source: Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), with own elements added. Retrieved via Bright Sky (brightsky.dev).
