On a hot day, asphalt can run 35–55°F hotter than the air — hot enough to burn paw pads while you're barely warm. PawWalk answers the question that matters at the front door with the leash in your hand: how warm is the ground likely to be, and when might conditions be better?
And it answers for free. No subscription, ever — the hourly walk windows, the widget, the dog profile: all of it, free with one small banner, and a single one-time purchase removes even that.
Walk windows, at a glance
PawWalk doesn't just say "too hot." It shows today and tomorrow as a simple timeline with the cooler stretches marked green: "Looks good until 8:30 AM, then again after 6:15 PM." A quick way to compare the forecast before you check the ground — no score to interpret, no forms to fill out.
What you get
• An estimated surface temperature for the ground right where you are — asphalt, concrete, grass, and beach sand, each shown separately.
• A clear verdict in plain words: looks good, warming up, too hot for most dogs, or stay off the pavement.
• The "why" in one line — sun, air temperature, and what the sidewalk is likely doing underfoot.
• Estimated walk windows for today and tomorrow.
• An hour-by-hour page, one swipe away: every hour of today and tomorrow with its estimated ground temperature, color-coded by how it feels underfoot.
• A home-screen widget: the verdict and the next good window without even opening the app.
• A dog profile that stays out of your way: three switches (puppy or senior, flat-faced, heat-sensitive coat) that adjust the guidance for your dog.
• A cold mode for winter mornings — chilly wind and bitter cold get their own verdicts, and bitter hours never show as green walk windows.
• °F out of the box in the US — or °C, your choice.
• A morning briefing, if you want it: one notification at 7 AM with the day's good stretches — nothing else, ever. Off by default.
• A last-checked note when you're offline, so you always know how fresh the estimate is.
The hand test, always
PawWalk gives careful estimates, not guarantees. The final check is yours: press the back of your hand to the pavement for seven seconds. Too hot for you, too hot for paws. The app keeps that reminder one glance away, every day.
Built where summers bite
Made in Australia, where the pavement bites from November through February — and just as at home in a July heat wave anywhere the sun shines.
Quietly respectful
No accounts and no walk logging. PawWalk sends your location to WeatherAPI.com for the forecast. The free version includes ads; the privacy policy explains the data processed to provide them. And to say it once more, because it's rare in this corner of the store: no subscriptions, ever.
