It is suggested that you solve more problem sets and obtain more companion planes before launching. The more companions you have, the higher your possibility of winning! As you achieve a higher level, the difficulty of the battles will increase, too. Apart from fighting with your companions, you must apply tactics that you can think of to complete some missions.
