EUROPEAN LEUKODYSTROPHIES ASSOCIATION Founded in 1992, the European Leukodystrophies Association brings together families fighting leukodystrophies. Leukodystrophies are degenerative diseases that affect the myelin (nerve sheaths) of the nervous system and lead to severe disabilities. *Every week in Europe, 20 to 40 children are born with these diseases. SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL RESEARCH ELA's objective is to help French and international researchers better understand the mechanisms of the disease and its natural history, particularly through the discovery of biomarkers, and to develop new treatments. ELA is the world's leading funder of leukodystrophy research. To date, ELA has funded more than 520 research projects for a total of more than 44 millions euros.
