Laut Jahrbuch für Gesundheitsstatistik 2023 sind Erkrankungen im Bereich der GEH einerseits die häufigste Ursache für Krankenstände, andererseits machen sie 9,9 % der Akutaufenthalte in Krankenanstalten aus und zuletzt sind sie für 3,6 % aller 89760 Sterbefälle im Jahr 2023 verantwortlich [2].
