November 2025 stellte die Bundespolizei aus Bad Bentheim am ehemaligen Grenzübergang Achterberg-Springbiel bei der Einreise eines niederländischen Staatsbürger 148 Kilogramm Feuerwerkskörper der Kategorie IV sicher. Bei der Kontrolle des Kleintransporters entdeckten die Polizisten im Laderaum zwischen Arbeitsgeräten acht Kartons. Hierin befanden sich Feuerwerkskörper mit einem Gesamtgewicht von insgesamt 148 Kilogramm. Die für den Transport erforderliche Einfuhrgenehmigung für Feuerwerkskörper der Kategorie IV konnte der Fahrer nicht vorweisen. In die Kategorie IV fallen Feuerwerkskörper, welche eine große Gefahr darstellen und nur von Personen mit Fachkenntnissen verwendet werden dürfen. Das Hauptzollamt Osnabrück übernahm den Vorgang und beschlagnahmte die Feuerwerkskörper. Gegen den Fahrer wurde ein Strafverfahren wegen Verdachts eines Verstoßes gegen das Sprengstoffgesetz eingeleitet. Für die Durchführung des Verfahrens erhoben die Zöllner in Abstimmung mit der Staatsanwaltschaft Osnabrück eine Sicherheitsleistung in Höhe von 1.500 Euro. Die weiteren Ermittlungen hat das Zollfahndungsamt Essen übernommen.
