78%Fitz Herrera, an abstract artist, was born in Caloocan, raised in Nueva Vizcaya, and moved to Manila for college. The contrasting rural and urban environments shaped his creativity and aesthetic, influenced by a strict Catholic upbringing. From 1996 to 2000, Herrera studied at the University of the East – College of Fine Arts, majoring in Advertising. He initially produced figurative works, earning awards like third place in the 2004 Metrobank Art Awards. However, inspired by artists like Bernardo Pacquing, Cy Twombly, and Jose Joya, he transitioned to abstract art, finding greater freedom in this style. Herrera prefers to mix his own paint using modeling paste and pigment, which defines the textures and colors of his work. His abstract art evolved from minimal and restrained to lively and expressive, reflecting his personal experiences and emotions rather than societal influences. His first solo show, "Divisions," was inspired by professional environments filled with segregation. His art consistently mirrors his personal life, capturing moments of sincerity and reflection. While he believes in faith's role in creativity, his primary inspiration is his own life experiences. Music also plays a significant role in his creative process. Initially inclined towards a musical career, Herrera later integrated his musical interests into his art, particularly in his third solo exhibition, inspired by his experiences as a drummer and his favorite songs.
