But did you know that in Northern Ireland you can take your work as an HCA to the next level – by becoming a Band 3 HCA? It’s a smart upskilling move that can open many doors for you, both now and into the future. Let’s take a closer look… Firstly, what is a Band 3 HCA? … and what is the difference between a Band 2 and Band 3 HCA? Well, as a Band 2 HCA your work is very much focused on helping those you support with personal care such as toileting, bathing, dressing and recording information on them. You might help patients with meals, make beds and assist them with other daily tasks. Alternatively, as a Band 3 HCA you would manage a limited range of clinical responsibilities and duties, to assist Nursing staff. These tasks would be delegated to you based on your skills and the services covered. For example, you might monitor a patient’s blood pressure and blood glucose, observe wounds and do simple wound dressing. You may also be directed by a Registered Nurse to help prevent patients from developing pressure sores, in line with their care plan.
