Will you actually see totality from where you will be standing? Most eclipse apps answer that with a computed guess. This one answers it with the data.
Inside Spain, Eclipse publishes the verdict from the Instituto Geografico Nacional for every municipality. That matters more than it sounds. A textbook calculation puts Madrid just inside the path of totality. The IGN puts it outside, at 99.90 percent. An app that says otherwise gets proven wrong in public, on the day.
THREE ECLIPSES, ONE APP
2 August 2027 is the big one: totality runs from southern Spain across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, where Luxor gets 6 minutes 23 seconds, the longest over land in decades.
26 January 2028 is an annular eclipse, the ring of fire, and it crosses Spain at sunset with the Sun only a few degrees above the horizon. Both are already in the app. It moves to the next one on its own, with no update needed.
WHAT YOU GET
- A straight answer for your exact place. Total, annular, partial, or right on the limit. When your spot sits on the edge, the app says so instead of guessing, and names the nearest town that is safely inside.
- Every contact time to the second, in the local time of the place you asked about.
- Which way to look. A live compass points you at the right patch of sky, with the Sun's exact height above the horizon so you can check today that no building or ridge is in the way.
- Times clipped to sunset. Where an eclipse ends below the horizon, showing a time you cannot observe is worse than showing nothing.
- Cloud cover for your spot, from Apple Weather, so you know whether to drive.
- Alerts before each phase, scheduled on your device.
- The full path map, with the centre line and both limits.
WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL
Everything except the cloud forecast runs entirely on your device. No account, no server, no connection. On eclipse day, when everyone opens their eclipse app in the same few minutes, that is the difference between an answer and a spinning wheel.
NOTHING IS COLLECTED
No tracking, no analytics, no account. Your location never leaves your phone. The only network request is Apple's own weather service.
SAFETY FIRST
Never look at the Sun without certified ISO 12312-2 filters. An annular eclipse has no safe moment at all: even a perfect ring is direct sunlight. The app says so, and never tells you to remove your glasses unless you are genuinely inside totality.
