100%Commonly referred to as the Siberian Lily or the Lavender Mountain Lily, Ixiolirion tataricum ssp. pallasii was native to the steppes of Asia minor, Afghanistan and Syria circa 1821. This deer- and-rodent resistant naturalizer has slender stems topped with loose umbels of a dozen or so flowers that range from light to deep violet-blue flowers with darker midveins and grass-like foliage. They start funnel-shaped and then open into large star-shaped flowers. It is best grown in neutral pH, well-draining soil in full sunlight. If it’s happy where it’s planted, particularly in areas with hot almost arid summer conditions, and is left undisturbed, it slowly naturalizes by bulb offsets (called bulbils: baby bulbs on the sides of the mother bulb you’ve planted) and maybe even by self-sowing seed. Since it’s not tremendously hardy, you may want to apply no more than a 2" layer of mulch after the surface of the ground freezes to protect it from winter temperature spiking in the event of inconsistent snow coverage. It makes a terrific cut flower. You’ll need nine bulbs per square foot. (Square footage is determined multiplying the planting site’s length times its width.) Bulb size: 4 cm/up (this species makes a very small top-size bulb). Full sunlight. Bloom time in horticultural zone 5: Late May/June. Plant 5" deep and 4" apart. HZ: 5-9. Height: 15". Ixiolirions tataricum ssp. pallasii is The Art & Soul of Spring. Ixiolirion Horticultural Tips

88%Commonly known as The Guinea Hen Flower, The Checkered Lily or The Snake’s Head Fritillary, F. meleagris alba is the white-only selection out of F. meleagris, an heirloom species dating back to 1575. It has pendant, bell-shaped, green-veined ivory-white flowers with grass-like foliage intermittently spaced on its slender stems. This deer- and rodent-resistant naturalizer is native to the western Himalayas and Asia Minor, and prefers rich, well-draining neutral pH soil and a bit of light shade or dappled sunlight. Mature plantings can grow taller than its usual 8” height. You’ll need about nine bulbs per square foot. Bulb size: 5 cm/up. Full to partial sunlight. Bloom time in horticultural zone 5: April/May. Plant 5" to 6" deep and 5" to 6" apart. HZ: 3-8. Height: 8". Fritillaria are The Art & Soul of Spring. Fritillaria Horticultural Tips

83%Phlox 'Glamour Girl' is a true standout in the summer garden, living up to her name with a high-fashion display of vibrant color and elegant form. A member of the "Garden Girls" collection, this variety is highly prized for its large, rounded clusters of fragrant, hot coral-pink flowers that sit atop strong, dark purple stems. What truly sets 'Glamour Girl' apart from older phlox varieties is her exceptional health and resilience. While many tall garden phlox struggle with powdery mildew (the white "dusty" film on leaves), this cultivar stays remarkably clean and green even in hot, humid summers. The contrast between the neon-pink blooms and the healthy, dark green foliage creates a lush, sophisticated look that lasts for weeks. Quick Facts: Foliage: Lush, dark green, and lance-shaped; notably resistant to powdery mildew. Flowers: Large, sweet-smelling clusters of bright coral-pink; attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Light: Full Sun is best for the strongest stems and maximum flower production. Growth Habit: Upright and sturdy; grows approximately 2–3 feet tall and 18–24 inches wide. Hardiness: Very reliable in USDA Zones 3–8. Landscape Use: A "must-have" for the middle of a perennial border, cottage gardens, or as a vibrant cut flower for summer arrangements. Pro Tip: To maximize the "glamour," plant this phlox in rich, well-drained soil with good air circulation. While it is mildew-resistant, watering at the base of the plant (rather than over the leaves) helps maintain its pristine appearance. If you "deadhead" (remove the faded flower clusters) promptly, you may be rewarded with a second, lighter flush of blooms in late summer. It's a heavy feeder, so a bit of compost or balanced fertilizer in the spring will ensure she puts on her best show!
