Piedmont has performed over 3,400 kidney transplants since 1986 and performed the first kidney-pancreas transplant in Georgia, as well as the first laparoscopic and robotic donor nephrectomies in Georgia. Our program is one of the largest in the Southeast, performing over 200 kidney transplants per year, nearly half of which are from living donors. Our patient and graft survivals lead the Southeast and are among the best in the country. Our 6 transplant surgeons and 5 transplant nephrologists are highly skilled and collaborative, contributing to an excellent patient experience. Our surgical team has advanced the role of robotic and minimally invasive surgery to help improve recovery for living donors. Piedmont has embraced paired kidney exchange and desensitization as ways to expand opportunities for patients to receive living donor kidneys. Our team also travels to Athens, Marietta, Macon, Savannah, and Albany in order to improve access to transplant in underserved areas of the state and region.
