Islay Whiskys zeichnen sich durch ihre rauchige / torfige Note aus und erfreuen sich unter den Whisky Fans großer Beliebtheit. In der Tasting Selection sind folgende Islay-Whiskys enthalten: Laphroaig 10 Jahre 40%vol. Sample 0,04l Die Destillerie Laphroaig auf der Insel Islay produziert den Lieblingswhisky von Prinz Charles, was man auch stolz auf den Etiketten der Abfüllungen zur Schau trägt. Laphroaig ist ein typischer Vertreter von Islay - für Laphroaig gilt der Grundsatz: "Entweder man liebt ihn oder man hasst ihn!". Der Geschmack ist überwältigend, Whiskykenner verwenden Wörter wie Seetang, Diesel, Teer oder Desinfektionsmittel um ihn zu beschreiben. Aroma: zu Beginn gleich kräftig mit viel Rauch und Torf, dazu würzige Aromen und Lakritz, leicht salzig - man erkennt die Nähe zum Meer - im Hintergrund verbranntes, feuchtes Holz Geschmack: jetzt deutlich Seetang und viel Eiche, dann intensive Phenole und Jod, erinnert an einen Erste-Hilfe-Kasten mit Pflaster und Mullbinden, etwas altes Leder - dann würziger werdend mit Noten von schwarzem Pfeffer und Kardamom Abgang: lang im Abgang, wieder Torf und Jod - etwas Teer und feuchtes Holz Laphroaig ist eine der wenigen Destillerien, die heute noch ihr Torf selber sticht und deren "malting floors" noch immer in Betrieb sind. Caol Ila 12 Jahre 43%vol. Sample 0,04l Caol Ila gilt als Geheimtip, verglichen mit anderen Islay-Whiskys ist er leicht - doch er hat einen intensiven Torfgeschmack. Der größte Teil der Produktion geht in Blends wie Johnnie Walker, so daß die Abfüllungen als Single Malt relativ gering ausfallen. Aroma: Torfrauch, frisches Seegras, leicht salzig Geschmack: Torfrauch und geräucherter Fisch, Teer und feuchtes Leder, leicht salzige Abgang: wieder geräucherter Fisch, jetzt fast wie verbrannt, ölige Noten, die sich lange halten, dazu leicht Zitrone und Karamell Lagavulin 16 Jahre
