The National Committee for Steel Industry at the Council of Saudi Chambers (NCSI) became an affiliate member at the World Steel Association, in a step that boosts the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s profile as a thriving hub for the steel industry. The announcement came during WorldSteel’s General Assembly meeting in Monterrey, Mexico, last October. The NCSI selection by WorldSteel reflects Saudi Arabia’s reputable position, globally, and the presence of its institutions at the international arena. NCSI Chairperson Eng. Raed Al Ajaji described the news as a significant development as the committee represents a key strategic economic sector that is an instinct part of the G20 agenda, adding that such step would elevate the committee’s achievements, locally and globally, and boost the Kingdom’s profile among the 20 largest steel producers, worldwide. Al Ajaji stated that by joining WorldSteel, NCSI would have access to global databases and relevant research, statistics and studies that influence the industry. In addition to the opportunity to participate in relevant programs and initiatives and get in contact with experts and leaders from the field. He added that the Brussels-based WorldSteel is one of the leading industrial entities in the world, with around 170 members that represent 85% of steel producers worldwide, and is particularly known for its keenness on economic, environmental and social sustainability, and promoting the steel industry. The NCSI Chairperson commended the CSC board of directors for their continued support to the committee and the Saudi business community as a whole. It is worth noting that the Saudi steel industry grew significantly over the last few years due to the recent economic developments, including the increased government investment in infrastructure and urban development and the spike in local and global demand.
