יד יערי הוא מרכז לתיעוד וחקר שהוקם במטרה לשמר ולהנחיל את המורשת ההיסטורית, האינטלקטואלית והתרבותית של שתי תנועות מרכזיות בהיסטוריה של ישראל: השומר הצעיר - תנועת הנוער הציונית הראשונה שהוקמה בשנת 1911 , והקיבוץ הארצי - פדרציה של 85 קיבוצים בכל רחבי הארץ שנוסדה בשנת 1927 (כיום, חלק מהתנועה הקיבוצית המאוחדת). המרכז מורכב מארכיון ומחלקת מחקר המתעדים מעל 100 שנות היסטוריה מאז ועד היום, ומנגישים את המורשת והניסיון ההיסטורי של תנועות אלה בפיתוח ההתיישבות בארץ ובמאבק לסולידריות חברתית, שוויון ושלום בעולמנו. הארכיון מאחסן בנוסף אוספים של ארגונים השותפים בגישתם ושל אישים בולטים שונים. בעזרת אמצעי תקשורת מגוונים וגישה מקוונת, הארכיון משרת מאות חוקרים ברחבי הארץ והעולם ופונה לקהל הרחב במסגרת ימי עיון, כנסים, תערוכות, מיזמי מחקר ופרסומים.
