By Jeremy Scott, Director of Research

As Etsy releases its 1Q22 earnings report, the seller strike, a reaction to an increase in of the seller transaction fee from 5% to 6.5%, is top of mind as it impacts seller growth and engagement in the marketplace.

  • Converted visits, a historically strong signal of overall growth in gross merchant sales (GMS) in the Etsy marketplace, decelerated slightly in 1Q22.
  • Etsy order frequency and customer loyalty, have been relatively stable since 3Q21. The metric decreased 1% YoY in 1Q22, after an increase of 4% in 4Q21.
  • Etsy has been outperforming the eCommerce average since the start of the year, with U.S. traffic tracking down at a mid-single-digit on a weekly basis.
